What Does Swanson Do?
Located on Tennant Way in Longview, Swanson Bark & Wood isn’t one of those companies that produces wood products at the expense of the environment and their employees. Instead, they have a strong focus on sustainability, safety, and quality. Since 1928, they’ve shipped high quality, sustainable wood products throughout the United States and abroad. Their products include rock, mulch, biomass, custom soil blends, and much more.
When a business that has been supplying jobs to the area for so long came to us for lobby signs for Longview, WA, we were more than willing to help out. Swanson had recently updated their logo, and they wanted a new lobby sign that would really drive home their new branding while simultaneously demonstrating their longstanding commitment to top quality products.
We Provided Swanson with Three Alternatives: They Took the Fourth!
After listening to Swanson’s goals and budget, we got down to work creating some proofs for them. For their dimensional lobby sign, we offered three options: one using wood, one with simple painted PVC letters and logo, and another with frosted acrylic. Our client was still undecided after looking at the proofs we sent her, so we invited her down to our shop to check out our materials. Once she was in our shop, she saw a handsome backlit sign we’d made for our showroom and knew what she wanted.
The client ended up choosing acrylic as the main material. We began with a frosted acrylic panel that measured 40 inches in diameter. For the logo pieces and letters, we used custom routed, quarter inch thick PVC. The PVC was then painted to precisely match the colors on Swanson’s other new marketing materials. We then digitally printed the wood grain artwork that surrounds the Swanson name.
To make the lighting really pop and allow the logo to still be readable, we added a 3mm-thick aluminum composite panel that was a slightly smaller circle than the acrylic. This made it easy to accommodate the hardware for the sign and to direct the light back at the wall, so it will glow around the outside of the marker rather than through the frosted acrylic, which would obscure the logo. LED lights were used to reduce maintenance needs and save on energy.
The finished product was standoff mounted on the wall of their reception area. And, to make it light up, all we had to do was plug the sign into a wall socket. We even hooked it up to a switch to make it easy to turn the sign off at the end of the day. In the end, Swanson was absolutely thrilled with their new sign and how it showcased their new branding!
